FRAGILE assinala a entrada de João Fortuna no território da escultura de edição. Assente sobre a densidade bruta do betão, a obra tensiona a matéria e o conceito ao expor a fragilidade subjacente aos alicerces da civilização moderna. Sob a aparência de uma arquitetura inabalável, surge o retrato de um presente fraturado: um diagnóstico cru da velocidade contemporânea onde a hiperconexão apenas aprofunda o isolamento humano.
O artista guia-nos por uma sinalética de desumanização flagrante. Em painéis luminosos, frases como EVERYONE VS EVERYONE, PICK A SIDE, TOGETHER IS JUST A WORD NOW e NORMALIZE HATE denunciam o que não conseguimos ver no dia a dia, o que está à nossa frente. Perante o mesmo problema (SAME PROBLEM), dois grupos de costas voltadas rumam em sentidos opostos, instalando-se um "salve-se quem puder", um "todos contra todos" que alimenta o ódio e nos afasta do afeto e do amor. É o retrato do FIM DO DIÁLOGO. Já não há tempo para ouvir: estamos a lutar contra o quê? Os corpos são contaminados pela surdez e pela cegueira. Está declarada a extinção da empatia.
JUNTOS / COLETIVO / COMUNIDADE ... ERROR ... ERROR ...
No topo dos edifícios, no mesmo tom de vermelho alarmante, o tribalismo de NÓS contra ELES e a palavra SEPARADOS mostram o colapso do consenso e como a fronteira entre a civilização e a barbárie é demasiado ténue.
José Saramago escreveu: "Através da escrita tentei dizer que não somos bons e que é preciso que tenhamos coragem para reconhecer isso.“
João Fortuna, através desta escultura, tenta dizer-nos o mesmo. FRAGILE não é um desígnio final, mas sim um choque de consciência. É preciso abrandar e perguntarmo-nos: para onde caminhamos e que mundo queremos construir juntos?

FRAGILE marks João Fortuna’s entry into the realm of editioned sculpture. Grounded upon the raw density of concrete, the work creates a tension between matter and concept by exposing the fragility underlying the foundations of modern civilization. Beneath the appearance of an unshakeable architecture emerges the portrait of a fractured present: a raw diagnosis of contemporary speed, where hyperconnectivity only serves to deepen human isolation.
The artist guides us through a signage system of blatant dehumanization. Across illuminated panels, phrases such as EVERYONE VS EVERYONE, PICK A SIDE, TOGETHER IS JUST A WORD NOW, and NORMALIZE HATE denounce what remains unseen in our daily lives—what stands right before us. Facing the exact same plight (SAME PROBLEM), two back-to-back groups head in opposite directions, giving rise to an "every man for himself" ethos, an "all against all" dynamic that fuels hatred and alienates us from affection and love. It is the portrait of the END OF DIALOGUE. There is no longer time to listen: what are we fighting against? Bodies become contaminated by moral deafness and blindness. The extinction of empathy has been declared.
TOGETHER / COLLECTIVE / COMMUNITY ... ERROR ... ERROR ...
Atop the buildings, rendered in an alarming shade of red, the tribalism of US versus THEM and the word SEPARATEDreveal the breakdown of consensus, demonstrating how alarmingly thin the line between civilization and barbarism truly is.
José Saramago once wrote: "Through writing, I tried to say that we are not good, and that we must have the courage to acknowledge it.“
Through this sculpture, João Fortuna attempts to tell us the same. FRAGILE is not a final verdict, but a shock to consciousness. We must slow down and ask ourselves: where are we heading, and what kind of world do we want to build together?
