En | In this exhibition – Backcover – the book becomes my working material, assuming a fundamental role in the entire production, not only in technical or aesthetic terms, but mainly at a conceptual level. Because books were never just mere objects, they contain a symbolic, emotional and affective charge… almost like living elements, which awaken another level of consciousness and affinity in the human being. From the book I create new approaches to its form and content, sometimes filling it, other times going beyond the physical limits of the object itself... I destroy the book to give birth to the a visual artwork. I cut, dismantle, fragment and push away… the book takes on new forms. Pages give way to collage, words give way to images, in a visual narrative that transports us to the imagination of the 18 books presented on this exhibition.
Pt | Nesta exposição – Backcover (contracapa) – o livro torna-se a minha matéria-prima, assumindo um papel fundamental em toda a produção, não só em termos técnicos ou estéticos, mas principalmente a nível conceptual. Porque os livros nunca foram apenas meros objetos, contêm em si uma carga simbólica, emocional e afectiva… quase como elementos vivos, que despertam no ser-humano outro nível de consciência e afinidade. A partir do livro crio novas abordagens para a sua forma e conteúdo, por vezes recheando-o, outras vezes extravasando os limites físicos do próprio objecto... Destruo a obra literária para fazer nascer a obra visual. Corto, recorto, fragmento e afasto, o livro vai ganhado novas formas. As páginas dão lugar à colagem, as palavras dão lugar às imagens, numa narrativa plástica que nos transporta para o imaginário dos 18 livros que compõem esta exposição.
En| Some of the works I create are an evident reflection of the literary narrative, I appropriate the story and try to bring it closer to our contemporary world, to our problems, with a deconstruction of the message, but never a departure from the literary imaginary. We see this in the piece ''1984'' where we are face to face with a society highly controlled by power, cctv and propaganda/media; as well as in ''A Clockwork Orange'' where violent groups are part of everyday life in a futuristic London. In a way, it's like confronting the dystopias of our present.
Pt| Algumas das obras que crio são um reflexo evidente da narrativa literária, aproprio-me da estória e tento aproximá-la do nosso mundo contemporâneo, das nossas problemáticas, existindo uma desconstrução da mensagem, mas nunca um afastamento em relação ao imaginário literário. Vemos isso na peça ‘’1984’’ em que estamos frente-a-frente com uma sociedade altamente controlada pelo poder, cctv e propaganda/média; assim como na ‘’Laranja Mecânica’’ onde grupos violentos fazem parte do dia-a-dia de uma Londres futurista. De certa forma, é como confrontarmo-nos com as distopias do nosso presente.
